What perforation type gives the best sound absorption?
“The best sound absorption” is determined by the purpose of the room or the goal of the acoustic environment. If the goal is to absorb low frequency sound – bass absorption – a relatively low perforation percentage of up to 10% is to be preferred.
If, however, broad-band absorption across the frequency range is the goal, the most suitable products would be the ones with a perforation percentage between 10 and 20%.
In case of high frequency absorption, the products to be chosen are the ones with a perforation percentage above 20%. However, it is important to note that perforation percentage is not the only criteria determining the absorption level. Installation depth and the acoustic backing may have considerable impact on the absorbing properties of a specific perforation type.
Do perforated gypsum ceilings absorb sound just as good as mineral wool ceilings?
Perforated gypsum tiles can be designed to absorb in the same way as most other absorber types, including porous absorbers such as mineral wool ceilings. Installation depth, perforation type and acoustic backing are the methods of adjusting a given sound absorption profile.
In addition, perforated gypsum products are able to diffuse sound, especially in rooms where the products are placed both on walls and ceiling. In these cases, a perforated gypsum product, measured to have a lower absorption coefficient that a porous absorber, has proven to be just as effective as the porous absorber with a high absorption coefficient.
Can Knauf Danoline products be used in bathrooms?
Knauf Danoline products can be used in bathrooms. However perforated products are not recommended in areas subject to frequent or excessive splashing, spraying or steam, e.g. in shower cubicles.
Can Knauf Danoline products be washed with a pressure washer?
Due to the exposed gypsum edge and perforation holes, it is not recommended to use pressure washers.
Do Knauf Danoline products meet the requirements for clean room?
The product called Danotile meet the requirements ISO Class 5 according to ISO 14644-1.
Can Knauf Danoline products be used in laboratories?
Yes, Knauf Danoline products are suitable for use in laboratories.
Are Knauf Danoline products safe to use in earthquake areas?
Knauf Danoline products may be used in conjunction with earthquake-safe grid systems, in accordance with the manufacturers’ guidance.
Can Knauf Danoline products be used in swimming pool areas?
There are tree rules that you have to observe when dealing with indoor swimming pools:
2. The distance from the surface of the water to the product must be 7 meters in public swimming pools / pools in constant use. For private swimming pools that are used intermittently the distance may be reduced to 3 meters or more.
3. The metal furring / grid-system must be coated to withstand the chlorine gasses. The metal grid system is the most vulnerable element in a suspended ceiling system and must be corrosion resistant.
Over and above these rules the RH should also be less than 90%.
What is the minimum installation depth for suspended ceilings?
The minimum installation depth depends on the product. The specific guidelines for each product can be found in the installation guides. Choose the desired product from the product overview or by using the Product Selector.
What is the maximum weight of the installations built directly into the ceiling tile?
The maximum weights of the installations built directly into the ceiling tile are specified under “Load-bearing capacity”.
What is the difference between a wall angle and a shadow line trim?
In general, the difference between a wall angle and a shadow line trim lies in the aesthetical effect. The wall angle acts like a frame around the ceiling, whereas a shadow line trim gives a floating effect. For Corridor 400, the difference in also in the installation depth. A wall angle requires an installation depth of 300mm whereas with a shadow line trim the ceiling can be mounted with a 100mm cavity.
What type of furring can be used for installation of Designpanel?
Designpanel can be mounted on either steel, i.e. CD profiles, or on wooden furring.
Can Designpanel be mounted directly onto a hard surface (e.g. 13mm gypsum boards)?
Yes, but the acoustic effect deteriorates. For optimal acoustic effect, Designpanel must be mounted on 45mm furring with mineral wool backing.
Where should the steam blocking be placed?
The steam blocking must not be placed directly on to the perforated gypsum board. For acoustic reasons and in order to prevent partial vacuum, the steam blocking is to be placed min. 10mm away from the perforated gypsum board.
How many perforated gypsum boards are necessary in a room?
In private houses, the amount of perforated gypsum board necessary can be calculated by means of the formula: Volume (m³) x 0.18 = m² of perforated gypsum boards. Learn more about use of Knauf Danoline products in private houses under DIY. In other building types, the amount of acoustic materials is calculated based on the required reverberation time. The calculation is provided by your local Knauf Danoline contact.
What is the consumption of screws for mounting of Contrapanel?
Consumption varies according to panel size.
600 x 1200 mm = 16 screws
600 x 1800 mm = 22 screws
600 x 2400 mm = 28 screws
600 x 1200 mm = 22,2 screws
600 x 1800 mm = 20,4 screws
600 x 2400 mm = 19,5 screws
600 x 1200 mm = 20 screws
600 x 1800 mm = 28 screws
600 x 2400 mm = 36 screws
600 x 1200 mm = 27,8 screws
600 x 1800 mm = 26 screws
600 x 2400 mm = 25 screws

What is the consumption of joint filling for Solopanel or Stratopanel?
The consumption of the joint filling materials is as follows: Uniflott – 0.4 kg/m² Finish Pastös – 0.05-0.1 kg/m² Primer – 0.02 l/m²
In what colours are the products available?
The standard colour for painted products is white (NCS 0700 / RAL 9003), however many products and perforations are available painted in special colours from the NCS and RAL colour pallets.
In what sizes are the products available?
How much do Knauf Danoline products weigh?
The weight depends on panel thickness, perforation percentage, and fixing methods. As a guide the products weigh approximately 7-10kg/m². Go to “Products” or use Product Selector to find the requested product.
What is the total weight of a suspended ceiling system?
What do the product names indicate?
The names of Knauf Danoline products indicate the edge finishing of the tile. For example Contur is a product with an edge D concealing the grid, whereas Plaza has an A edge where the grid is fully exposed. A product is further specified by the choice of the perforation design, i.e. Tangent, Micro, Quadril, Globe or Regula.
What perforation patterns are available?
Perforation patterns are specific to different product groups or products. You can learn more about Knauf Danoline perforation patterns and their availability under Perforations.
What are the advantages of Knauf Danoline products compared to other acoustic materials?
Contrary to porous materials, Knauf Danoline perforated gypsum tiles can be repainted over and over again without any loss of acoustic performance. In addition, our material is more robust and easier to create different shapes with. Finally, compared to other porous materials, Knauf Danoline perforated gypsum poses no risk of releasing hazardous dust particles. You can learn more about the properties of our perforated gypsum ceiling and wall solutions under “Properties”. Their environmental impact is explained under “Environment”.
How are Knauf Danoline products cleaned and maintained?
Maintenance guide for each product can be found on the individual product sites. Choose the desired product from the product overview or use the Product Selector to search for a product meeting your requirements.
What are the general delivery times for Knauf Danoline products?
The delivery times depend on the type of product ordered, i.e. standard stock items or specialities.
Standard stock items: dispatched within 1 week from the receipt of order
